An Artistic Haven near Taos, New Mexico
Mountain Light is the home of internationally known Photo Artist Gail Russell, www.gailrussellphotoartist.com
and is now being opened as a retreat for artists and writers with a
bi-annual residency program also emerging. Perched high on the edge of
Hondo Mesa, this traditional adobe home offers views spanning more than
80 miles, including Taos Mountain, sacred to the Tiwa (Taos Pueblo
People).Situated 7 miles north of Taos, 6 miles from the D.H.Lawrence Ranch and only minutes to a rustic hot springs on the Rio Grande.
A LANDSCAPE TO EXPAND THE HEART
This Land is long known to infuse Artists and Writers, visitors and natives with vast inspirational glimpses into how the past leads us into our future. Our retreat is a charming reflection of times past and the simplicity of Earth centered life in rural Northern New Mexico. Our two dogs, father goose and teenage Macaw greet guests with their own stories to tell.
The
retreat is available for weekly and monthly stays year round. There are
daily stays as well - available for guests and family of visiting
artists - and a Residency program is offered in April and November.- Visits with us can include trips to:
- Taos Pueblo
- the Rio Grande Gorge
- Petroglyph site
- Various Places of Culture and Tradition and networking with resident artists, writers and local publishers (www.wildembers.com)
VISITING OUR RETREAT:
Our retreats are available for writers and artists developing projects where Spirit and Land are essential to their work. We accept guests who reflect a desire to be inspired by this Earth and Sky and we ask for a description of your project and/or your life interest in art or writing.
ABOUT OUR WRITERS RESIDENCY PROGRAM
Twice a year, April and November, we offer the opportunity for four writers with a work - in - progress to live and create at our retreat. Their stay is one month long, rent free (meals not included) ending with an opportunity to network with local publishers and writers. We choose our resident writers according to financial need and nature of their projects.
Regional
writers are welcome to apply. The application process is through Wild

RETREAT RATES:
Our retreat spaces vary in character, light and price. There is one guest room available in the traditional adobe main house, and two classic airstreams surrounding the courtyard.
Writers/Artists Retreat Rates: weekly: $95-$210 Monthly: $230-$600.
Althea's Room-Main House: Weekly-$ 250 Monthly: $600
Silver Palace Air Stream Classic: Weekly: $120 Monthly: $300
Little White Casita Weekly: $95 Monthly: $250
Retreat includes Kitchen privileges, refrigerator, fax, phone and internet access. There is a B&B guest room available for family and friends on a daily basis.
ART/WRITING WORKSHOPS
Mountain Light will be offering Art, Photography and Writing workshops which will begin in early 2004. We are also available as workshop facilities for presenters who would like to bring their own workshops to Taos.
